Has the President forgotten Sivaram?

Several programs were organized in Jaffna city to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the murder of journalist Dharmaratnam Sivaram on April 28th.
On the evening of April 28th, following a media briefing held at the Jaffna Media Association, a commemoration and protest were organized at the Journalists’ Memorial Monument near the Jaffna Subramaniam Park.

Selvakumar, President of the Jaffna Media Association, Sakthivel of the Eastern Journalists’ Forum, Preddy Gamage of the Professional Web Journalists Association, and Sampath Samarakoon of Internet Media Action attended the media event.

Journalists from the North, East and South participated in the event.
The journalists who spoke at the event said that the current government should fulfil the promises made regarding Sivaram and show their sincerity to the country.

Before the general election, in October 2024, the Ministry of Public Security had instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police to conduct expedited investigations into 7 major incidents, including the Sivaram murder investigation.

However, it is not reported that any such investigation has been initiated so far.
