A serious allegation has been made against a doctor at Negombo Hospital, accusing him of sexually abused a young woman who visited the outpatient department for treatment.
The young woman has reportedly filed a complaint with the Medical Director of Negombo Hospital regarding the incident. She has since been admitted to a ward for further investigations.
It has also been reported that the doctor involved recently began working at the Negombo Hospital. This situation echoes a tragic incident from 2007, when Sudarshana Balage, a intern doctor at that time, raped a young woman who sought treatment at Negombo Hospital. He subsequently dragged her from the sixth floor of the hospital and killed her. Despite several prior allegations of sexual abuses against Balage, the hospital administration failed to take appropriate action.
The current hospital administration must learn from these past failures and respond appropriately, without bias. We are hopeful that the Medical Director of Negombo Hospital will act promptly and impartially in addressing this serious matter.
