There has been a lot of talk in the past about a building being built near the Laugh Supermarket in the center of Negombo. It is reported that many in the city were of the opinion that this building was being built illegally, without considering the main criteria that should be considered when constructing a building facing a main road in a city belonging to a municipal council.
However, it was further reported that the construction of this building was carried out without even obtaining the approval of the Negombo Municipal Council’s Urban Planning Officer, and that the former Municipal Commissioner, Lakshman, had illegally given approval for the construction of this building.
. Similarly, the construction of a roof on one side of the building, which was located on the side of the old supermarket where the daily market was located, is completely illegal, but it does not appear that any steps have been taken in this regard.
