Court case for assaulting Mr.Freedy Gamage the Editor of ” Meepura ” held today. As Magistrate Mr.Ruchira Weliwatta ordered Negombo Police to conduct an unbiased investigations on tis issue last week, but still police couldn’t arrest real culprits. ” if you got phone details about this incident before month ago,why you can’t give an answer to the court?” asked Magistrate Mr.Ruchira Weliwatta from the officer in charge of the Minor Complaints departments of Negombo Police.” We hadn’t enough time for the investigations” he replied.
“Although the assaulted editor have clearly mentioned about the threating phone call from former wise mayor Dayan Lanza, also it is already mentioned in B report, and it seems that police is conducting these investigations without concerning it.” said Mr.Dantha Niranjana representing complaining party.13 phone calls between the main suspect and the Dayan Lanza on the date of the assault,and not having any details between that two on previous months are fair enough to make a doubt, he emphasized. After concerning all these facts Magistrate said that investigations on this case is delaying egregiously.
Magistrate Mr. Weliwatta gave one week period to police to investigate this under a DIG and court case staved for one week till July 12th. And the bail request is also rejected again.
Mr.Dantha Niranjana and Mr.Chamara Jayasinghe represented complaining party.
